Performance Appraisals

Whether it be conducting the appraisals, developing performance improvement plans, or assisting managers in assessing employees, it is critical to understand the process and how different situations should be handled. In this Competency Assessment, you will begin by responding to scenarios that depict challenging workplace situations. You will then use the Performance Appraisal Form to complete a performance appraisal for a colleague, friend, or family member.

Maggie Johnson takes considerable pride in her athletic physique. She works out every morning at the gym before beginning her shift at the hospital, but sometimes she doesn’t allow enough time to get in a shower before heading to work. In addition, she likes her scrubs to be very form fitting, and some tops show quite a bit more skin than the typical RN on the floor. Several patients have commented to other nurses about Maggie’s appearance, calling it inappropriate and sloppy, but they have not filed a formal complaint or comment during the discharge process.

Describe how you would broach the issue in a private meeting with Maggie.
